FinTech Funding Continues to Surge as Second Edition of Dubai FinTech Summit Commences
Malaysia’s Ministry Of Environment And Water’s Business Programmes Generate RM16.33 Billion (USD 3.71 Billion) In Potential Trade And Investment Leads At Expo 2020 Dubai
The Five Weekly Programmes Led By The Ministry Gave Access To Malaysian Industries To Grow Their Global Footprint at The World Expo.
The Ministry, together with its agencies the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) and National Water Services Commission (SPAN), had hosted five trade and business programmes during the Expo to promote sustainable solutions relating to the environment and water sectors.
The programmes were participated by a total of 72 companies who were given opportunities to link up and partner with global partners, including from the UAE.
The trade and investment leads were generated through the signing of 19 partnership documents with parties from various nations, as well as 246 business enquiries received during business matching sessions. The Memorandums of Understanding, Memorandums of Cooperation and Letters of Intent signed alone are valued at RM12.31 bil (USD 2.8 bil).
“In line with the theme of KASA’s programme which was ‘Green Growth: Ready for Global Opportunities’, the ministry wanted to provide opportunities for our local industries to access global markets and forge international partnerships and investments. This will aid the economic recovery that was affected by Covid-19 as well as grow the green economy.
“There were also collaborations with various parties on a Government-to-Government and Government-to-Business levels,” said Minister of Environment and Water Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Amongst the MoU’s signed was a collaboration with the Netherlands on flood mitigation and with Australia on the subject of governance modelling between states, for the responsibility of pollutants in rivers and water bodies.
A collaboration with the UAE involves sewerage technology from Malaysia by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK). The services involved the installation of sewerage networks to rationalise septic tanks to a central treatment plant. This will avoid groundwater pollutants, improve overall hygiene and provide efficient and modern sewerage treatment technology. Malaysia is one of the world’s leading sewerage services providers.
Malaysian companies that forged deals at the expo during KASA week included Intelligent Aqua Sdn Bhd, Potaglas Malaysia Sdn Bhd, Pipeco Tanks Sdn Bhd, and PTS Tech Solution Sdn Bhd involving international collaboration and cooperation programmes, product research and development (R&D) activities, as well as MoU.
Malaysia’s activities at Expo 2020 Dubai included 26 weekly thematic trade and business programmes which were led and supported by five state governments, 21 ministries and 70 department and agencies. The programmes highlighted over 10 industry verticals which were participated by a total of 400 companies.
KASA hosted the Green Technology Innovation Week, Climate Resilience & Sustainable Infrastructure Week, Low Carbon Cities Week, Water Week and Circular Economy Week at the Malaysia Pavilion.
KASA’s efforts to promote global collaborations at Expo 2020 Dubai extended to global sharing of ideas and solutions for a better, sustainable future. Aside from participating in forums and discussion at the expo, KASA and its agencies also hosted the Climate Change Conversation on Sustainable Infrastructure forum, the Climate Change Conversation on Sustainable Cities forum, the forum on Water Demand Management Strategies and the Circular Economy Conference.
“KASA’s programmes at the Expo is part of the ministry’s initiative to involve all stakeholders in our national climate change agenda. Industry and international cooperation are also crucial in our country’s aim to achieve net-zero emissions earliest in 2050 including through sharing of knowledge and expertise,” added the minister.
