Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 3 March 2025

The UAE Food Bank and Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in the UAE, have announced a strategic collaboration this Ramadan to provide over 3,300 meals daily, reinforcing their shared commitment to food security and community support. This initiative is in line with Carrefour’s strategy to enable a reliable food security ecosystem and supports the UAE Food Bank’s 1,000 Meals programme.

Carrefour’s vital contribution will be delivered as an in-kind donation, supplying all meat and grocery items required for meal preparation. To ensure the seamless preparation of the Iftar meals, the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour will collaborate with Taya Art Production, a member of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Establishment for SME Development. This collaboration reinforces Carrefour’s enduring commitment to supporting the local economy by championing UAE-based SMEs and entrepreneurs.

Alongside meal preparation, Taya Art Production will produce a Ramadan television series showcasing the culinary process behind the meals, while also promoting innovative ways to repurpose surplus food and minimise waste—a key objective shared by both the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour.

Prepared meals will be distributed daily to workers in key locations across the UAE through the coordinated efforts of the UAE Food Bank and Carrefour’s ‘Care Vans’. These mobile units will also provide dates and water at traffic signals, bus stops, and metro stations across Dubai, ensuring that commuters can break their fast even while on the move. Carrefour’s volunteers will play an active role in this initiative, participating in the distribution efforts.

Dr Günther Helm, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Retail, emphasised the company’s commitment to food security and community empowerment: “Majid Al Futtaim Retail is steadfast in its commitment to initiatives that address food security and uplift our local community. Ramadan, as a celebration of generosity and giving, inspired us to launch our ‘Unlock the Spirit of Ramadan’ initiative and our partnership with the UAE Food Bank is a cornerstone of this endeavour – allowing us to distribute 100,000 meals to those who need it most.”

He added: “We are honoured to align our efforts with His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s vision for a united and empowered community—one that nurtures collaboration and mutual support throughout the UAE. I am confident that, by working closely with our esteemed partners, we will achieve success and best serve our community.”

Manal Bin Yaroof

Manal Bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team of the UAE Food Bank commented: “At the UAE Food Bank, our mission is to promote a sustainable food system by efficiently redistributing surplus food to those in need, reducing waste, and strengthening food security. This collaboration with Carrefour exemplifies our commitment to fostering a culture of giving and sustainability, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.”

She continued: “By providing 2,000 meals daily and ensuring that food reaches those who need it most, we are reinforcing our shared vision of responsible food management and social solidarity. Through partnerships like this, we continue to build a compassionate and resourceful community that prioritises both human welfare and environmental responsibility.”

This collaboration further solidifies the longstanding partnership between Majid Al Futtaim and the UAE Food Bank, underscoring their dedication to supporting food security, reducing food waste, and making a tangible impact in communities across the UAE.
