SpaceX Founding Team Member and Phantom Space Co-Founder Jim Cantrell Joins Spacecoin as Strategic Advisor

Cantrell brings decades of aerospace and launch experience as Spacecoin scales its decentralized satellite network.
San Francisco, 23 April 2025
Spacecoin, the world’s first decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) powered by blockchain-enabled low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites, today announced the appointment of Jim Cantrell as a strategic advisor.
A founding member (former VP and Elon Musk’s industry mentor as an aerospace consultant) of SpaceX, and currently the CEO and Co-founder of Phantom Space Corporation, Cantrell brings deep technical and commercial expertise as the company scales its decentralized satellite constellation to deliver internet access to underserved communities worldwide.
Cantrell joins at a pivotal moment in the company’s roadmap. Spacecoin launched its first satellite, CTC-0, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 in December 2024, marking a key step toward building out its full satellite constellation, with plans to have three additional satellites in orbit by the end of 2025.
Earlier this month, the team released a real-time satellite tracker, offering public visibility into CTC-0’s orbital path and reaffirming Spacecoin’s commitment to transparency.
With plans to expand across underserved regions in Africa, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, the growing constellation is designed to deliver last-mile connectivity that’s permissionless and independent of traditional telecom infrastructure.
“I have long been a believer in the power of decentralized networks for assuring human liberty and economic independence. I am excited to work with Spacecoin who shares this vision and wants to expand it into space.” said Jim Cantrell.
The network is designed to be open, community-governed, and free from centralized control, enabling users to pay with tokens for bandwidth, stake for governance, and build on-chain credit through Creditcoin, the Layer-1 blockchain underpinning Spacecoin.
“We’re not just sending satellites into orbit—we’re building the foundation for a permissionless internet,” said Tae Oh, Founder of Spacecoin. “Jim’s experience building real-world space systems makes him the ideal advisor as we prepare to scale operations.”
Spacecoin will be featured as a title sponsor at TOKEN2049 Dubai, where the team will present its latest developments in DePIN, satellite infrastructure, and global connectivity. For more information, visit www.spacecoin.org and follow for more updates on X at @_spacecoin.
