MGTC FURTHER DRIVES GLOBAL GREEN ECONOMY THROUGH COLLABORATIONS WITH FOUR COUNTRIES
Four global partnerships were signed during Expo 2020 Dubai.
DUBAI, 27th April 2021: The Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) is collaborating with other countries to expand the green economy while growing its global footprint.
MGTC forged four new partnerships during the recently concluded Expo 2020 Dubai, with institutions based in Slovenia, Pakistan, India and Guinea to develop sustainable infrastructure projects.
This involves a Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with the Municipality of Maribor in Slovenia and with the Republic of Guinea and Memorandums of Cooperation (MoC) with Lahore Central Business District Development (LCBDDA) in Pakistan and with WaysAhead in India.
The collaborations with Slovenia and Pakistan focus on developing environmentally – friendly infrastructure projects in urban developments in the respective countries.
These two collaborations entail the parties to expand opportunities for the exchange of experiences and best practices in the areas of sustainability, low carbon cities, active and electric mobility, renewable energy and sustainable waste management.
The MoU signed with the Municipality of Maribor in Slovenia is estimated to be worth US$94.9 million and aims to create new business opportunities for both Malaysian and Slovenian entities.
It was signed by MGTC Chief Executive Officer Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor and Mr. Samo Peter Medved on behalf of Maribor Vice Mayor for Mobility and Infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the MGTC CEO also signed an MoU with Bangaly Dioumessi, National Director of Pollution, Nuisances and Climate Change under Guinea Environment and Sustainable Development Ministry.
The collaboration with Guinea pertains to the development and promotion of renewable energy, waste management and green jobs in the republic.
The MoC with Lahore is supported by promoting capacity building, training and professional certification in sustainable development, low carbon cities, electric mobility, energy efficiency, green buildings and circular economy. It was signed by MGTC’s then Chief Operating Officer, Syed Ahmad Syed Mustafa, and Lahore Central Business District Authority Chief Executive Officer, Imran Amin.
The MoC with India has a greater focus on developing the infrastructure for e-mobility in India, mainly in low carbon mobility, electric vehicle charging infrastructure and low carbon mobility big data plus its related applications.
It also intends to create new business opportunities for Malaysian and Indian companies in these spaces. The MoC was signed by Syed Ahmad and WaysAhead Chief Executive Officer, Rupam Bhattacharjee.
Shamsul Bahar Mohammad Nor, CEO of MGTC said: “The MoUs and MoCs mark a significant milestone between our countries to pave the way in fostering collaboration and knowledge sharing through our participation in Expo 2020 Dubai.
“The opportunity of exchanging experience and best practices in sustainable development is in line with our mandate to develop environment-friendly projects through sustainable and smart infrastructure.
“This includes facilitating sustainable infrastructure projects aimed at urban development and implementing relevant experience by both Malaysian and partnering organisations,” he added.
Malaysia’s participation in Expo 2020 Dubai was spearheaded by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and implemented by MGTC.
