8 Northeast states from India to showcase their business opportunities at EXPO2020 Dubai
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura and Sikkim will be showcasing their investment potential during the ‘Northeast Fortnight’
DUBAI, March 05, 2022: The India Pavilion at EXPO2020 Dubai will be hosting the ‘Northeast Fortnight’ from 4th to 17th March 2022. The Northeast state pavilion will be inaugurated on 6th March and the fortnight will witness participation from various representatives of the State, Northeastern Council (NEC) and Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DONER).
The visiting delegation will also comprise of senior delegates including Shri. Chandramohan Patowari, Industry Minister of Assam, Shri. Bedu Singh Panth, Minister, Commerce & Industries Department and Tourism & Civil Aviation of Sikkim, Shri. Robert Royte, Minister Tourism and Sports of Mizoram and Shri. Imnatiba Jamir, advisor Industries and Commerce, of Nagaland. The delegation will be actively engaging with business leaders at the Expo during the Northeast Fortnight.
The objective of the Northeast Fortnight at EXPO2020 Dubai is to showcase the economic potential of the region, highlight the crucial sectors such as tourism and hospitality and to promote the rich cultural heritage including art and culture, foods from these states. To position the region as a developing part of the nation, the delegation will host several sessions aimed to highlight success stories, reforms and sectors of excellence. The startups from these states will also showcase their innovations and key achievements.
Several B2B and B2G meetings are also scheduled during the fortnight to highlight the business opportunities that Northeast region has to offer and to actively engage with potential investors to invite them to explore business opportunities in the region. These meetings will also initiate dialogues to promote trade between the Northeast India and the GCC countries.
Some of the sessions and conferences scheduled for the Northeast Fortnight include ‘Conference on Business Opportunities in the Northeast’ on 7th March. The session will focus on highlighting the investment opportunities in the eight north-eastern states and presentations by the states followed by interaction and deliberations. On 9th March, a session on Tourism Opportunities in the Northeast will be hosted followed by a session on Skill Development on 11th March.
Besides the business meetings, an array of cultural performances including traditional music, dances, performances by well-known bands, fashion shows highlighting the regions unique heritage and film screenings will also be hosted at the India Pavilion.
The Northeast is at the center of India’s Act East policy and the Government of India has a special focus on comprehensive economic development of the region. Many large infrastructure projects are also underway. The Northeast region’s connectivity with the ASEAN, BBIN and Southeast Asia is also a major contributor to boost the state’s economic performance with projects like the Trilateral Highway, the Kaladan Multimodal project, the trans-Asian railway, and the ongoing initiative to develop riverine connectivity with Bangladesh. Once completed, these projects have the potential to transform the Northeast into a major connectivity hub for Asia.
The Northeast states of India, surrounded by over 5300 kms of international borders, connect India and the ASEAN. The region offers opportunities for investment and trade in many sectors like, Agro Food, Organic food, Tourism, large Infrastructure projects, Petrochemicals & Plastics, Information Technology, Handloom & Textiles etc.
