This Halloween.. Jekyll & Hyde – The Seven Deadly Sins, November 1–2, 2025 | Live at Play, Dubai

Dubai, UAE – October 2025
This Halloween, prepare for a theatrical experience where shadows dance, music intensifies the story, and sins takes centre stage. Jekyll & Hyde – The Seven Deadly Sins is adapted from Jeffrey Hatcher’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and reimagined by Sid Abbas, who co-directs alongside Mira Shah. This daring production pushes Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale into bold new territory, blending theatre, movement, and music into a Halloween extravaganza
The Story
Dr. Henry Jekyll’s quest to separate good from evil unleashes Edward Hyde, a figure of violence and desire. But in this version, the Seven Deadly Sins, walk amongst them as characters, pulling Jekyll deeper into his fractured self. The result is both chilling and spectacular, a gothic mystery turned into a living carnival of temptation, consequence, and spectacle.

Behind the Vision

The combination of live music, stylized movement, and sharp dramatic text transforms the familiar story into something both familiar and startlingly new.
BEHIND THE CURTAIN: Q&A WITH THE DIRECTORS
Q: Sid, what drew you to adapting Jeffrey Hatcher’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde into The Seven Deadly Sins?
Sid Abbas: “Hatcher’s version already strips Stevenson’s story down to its essence. I wanted to go further and make the inner conflict visible. What if the sins weren’t metaphors, but characters breathing and moving around Jekyll? It turns the story into a living nightmare, and that’s what fascinated me.”
Q: Mira, what excites you most about co-directing this adaptation?
Mira Shah: “Theatre for me is always about energy. In this production, the dance, music, and physical staging aren’t add-ons, they are part of the storytelling. The sins don’t just tempt Jekyll, they seduce the audience. That interplay between text and movement is where the show really comes alive.”
Q: This is being staged as a Halloween event. How does that shape the production?
Sid Abbas: “Halloween is about masks, transformation, and revealing what hides beneath. That’s Jekyll’s story at its core. So the timing isn’t just seasonal, it’s thematic. It feels like the play belongs to Halloween.”
WHAT THEY’RE SAYING
Mahmoud Basyoni (Dr. Jekyll):
“This role is one of the most demanding and rewarding I’ve ever taken on. Jekyll’s struggle feels universal — the fight between who we want to be and who we fear we might be. On stage, it’s raw, powerful, and incredibly human.”
Mehr Hussain (Ensemble):
“I could not put down the script when I first read it. Every page drew me in deeper. It’s such a sharp, gripping adaptation that I knew immediately I wanted to be part of it. Watching it come alive in rehearsal has only confirmed how good it truly is.”
